Here's How We're Gearing Up for Giving Tuesday Military

I think we can all agree that 2020 has been anything but ordinary.

While it’s been challenging, without a doubt, personally, it’s revived my focus on what really matters—the health of our family, friends, and community.

Speaking of community, as a military-owned brand, we know just how important it is to help military and veteran families establish a deep-rooted sense of belonging and get the support they need (and deserve!).

And that’s why, here at WILCO SUPPLY, we have a strong commitment to give back.

So, while there are still a few months left to go until the big “give back” day—Giving Tuesday Military on Tuesday, December 1st—we’re anxiously and excitedly gearing up to be a part of this year’s movement. 

What’s Giving Tuesday Military?

If you’re not familiar with it just yet, I’m so glad you’re here! You might have heard about Giving Tuesday in years past. It’s a global generosity movement, which got its start back in 2012, and it serves as a vital reminder to give back to those in need—especially during the holiday season.

In 2019, for the first time ever, Giving Tuesday featured a military component (#GivingTuesdayMilitary). You have military spouses Jessica, Maria, and Samantha to thank for that! 

The purpose? To unite all branches of service, inspiring active-duty members, Guardsmen, Reservists, veterans, and military families to engage with their community and complete ONE MILLION acts of kindness.

I know, that may seem like a lot. But when you think about just how many people serve our country (nearly 1.3 million) and their loved ones, acts of kindness—no matter how big or small—can really add up!

Think about it. Extending kindness to others can be as simple as:

• Smiling at a complete stranger
• Calling a friend you haven’t spoken to in a while to check-in
• Holding the door open for someone
• Delivering a meal to a family in need
• Creating care bags for children in hospitals
• Donating old blankets and toys to an animal shelter
• Making kindness rocks and leaving them throughout your neighborhood

So, will you plan to pledge your act(s) of kindness this year? I know my team and I are raising our hands!

WILCO SUPPLY’s Giving Tuesday Military Plans

In months and years past, WILCO SUPPLY has been honored to support our community through the act of giving back. For example, in remembrance of Memorial Day, I partnered with fellow military and military spouse businesses to collaborate and raise awareness and funds for The Unquiet Professional, supporting Gold Star families. Proceeds from purchases made through our shop went to these efforts!

So, while I wanted to keep the momentum going, I wasn’t quite sure how in light of the worldwide pandemic. That’s when Giving Tuesday Military came back into the picture.

Recently, I signed up to be the Anchorage Chapter Ambassador, and we’re ALREADY gearing up for this year’s movement, which is happening on December 1st. It'll be here before we know it, and I can’t wait to keep you in the loop on our plans!

Even though this is an annual event, the hope for Giving Tuesday is that others are inspired to extend kindness more than once a year. Maybe for you, it’s quarterly or monthly, or even weekly. Whatever it may be, I’m excited to see how you pledge your act of giving back in 2020 and seeing what we, as a community, can accomplish.
